Chase Jarvis once said “the best camera is the one that's with you” and it’s hard to disagree.

So here’s 5 tips to help you take better photos with your phone:

  1. Clean your lens - Not the most exciting tip we know, but a dirty lens will have an impact on the final photo, especially in certain light conditions.

  2. Keep a good hold of your phone - When shooting, make sure you hold your phone well to avoid movements and keep any lines, especially the horizon straight.

  3. Manually expose by sliding the meter - Although you can adjust certain settings after the shot, make sure you try get the exposure right by sliding down the meter if needed - phones will do it automatically but you can tweak it to get the right image.

  4. Think about the right composition and take more than one shot - Think about the different options: orientation, lenses, angles, height, rule of thirds, top shots and take as many shots as you can - you can then check them out later and see which ones you prefer.

  5. Improve your photo by downloading the right app or filter - Most phones do a great job in processing the final jpeg, however every photo can be improved with some editing - phone apps such as Snapseed or Lightroom will do the job if you don’t want to edit them on your computer or laptop.

Once you’re happy with your photos and you’ve shared them on social media or with friends, make sure you back them up on hard disks or even better on the cloud using services such as Google Photos or iCloud. You wouldn’t want to lose any of your awesome photos!
